The Nielson Family Visit the Spiral Jetty
October 15, 2011
The Nielson Family Visit the Spiral Jetty . again.
What a difference a year can make!
Last year we couldn’t even see the lake from the Jetty and this year it was under it!
When we could start to see the Spiral Jetty I got chills and started to tear up. I’m not sure why (or how) a bunch of rocks can make me feel like that but it never fails to amaze me!
Another major difference this year, besides the water covering the jetty was that the water was
PINK.
For Real!
Like it knew I was coming so It put on its makeup.
(because I think I am so cool that nature would change itself for me. Oh Brother!)
It was UNREAL!
I claimed this place and called it Jana-topia.
The sky was a perfect blue, the water pink, the jetty awesome…the only thing missing was a Unicorn running on the sandy beach.
It is a pretty rocky hike down to the Jetty. We felt like we were on another planet almost.
Hubs and the kids started walking the jetty . The younger ones had to head back after about 20 feet . The water was getting a little deep.
Danny (almost 5), Jessica (almost 17 and refused to let me post pics of her), and I stayed on the beach and played in the water. Jess was having fun catching Brine Shrimp…ew.
Jeff (almost 41) and Smith (almost 14) made it to the very center of the spiral! They reported that the water was COLD!
It was a beautiful day. Everyone was happy and having fun.
A little bit like Heaven.

Love these pictures!!! I always hope I can see the spiral jetty from the plane…
I’ve never seen the Jetty from anything but the air. And why is the water pink? Always wondered that. Hmmmm…..
